What I enjoy the most about making New Years Resolutions is the way they help me to hone my focus for the year ahead, to spend less time worrying about things that don’t matter and more energy on the things that do.
In 2015, I made a couple goal-oriented resolutions and a couple resolutions geared toward personal improvement, and I’m pleased to say that I either met or made progress in every area discussed.
Without further ado, here’s a brief wrap-up/review of my 2015 resolutions, as well as my list of new resolutions for 2016.
2015:
While I was unable to begin querying Facing the Music, I did do one major revision on my own, send the manuscript off to my CPs, and begin another huge revision based on their comments and suggestions. I’ve re-discovered my passion for the story, and I’m hopeful that 2016 will be the year that I’m able to begin submitting it to agents.
I didn’t manage to complete a draft of a new manuscript, but I did complete 2/3rds of a draft AND discover the version of that story that I’m most excited about. This one WILL be completed in 2016. I’m sure of it.
I read 96 books instead of 100, which is still more than I’ve read in any of the last few years to date. I’m calling it a win!
Perhaps most importantly, I did find a new job. Finally! It’s another administrative assistant position, at a very different type of business, in an environment much more suited to my tastes, with a significant pay increase. My first day is January 4th, and I’m so excited about it I could burst!
My 2016 Resolutions are:
1. Begin querying Facing the Music
2. Finish drafting my title-less WIP and begin revising it
3. Start drafting a new story
4. Tune out or cut out negative influences, and actively try to reduce the time and energy I spend thinking about or participating in things that are stressful or exhausting or unpleasant.
5. Travel someplace I’ve never been before
If you’re reading this, I hope you’re just as excited about 2016 as I am. And if you’ve made resolutions of your own, share them with me in comments, or link me to your list.
Happy 2016, everyone!
