Wordsmithing

The first time I heard about Wordsmith Workshops was back in November, right around the halfway point of NaNoWriMo when writing feels like more of a struggle than it’s really worth. Part retreat and part workshop series, Wordsmith is a small writer gathering run by YA authors Beth Revis and Cristin Terrill. They offer workshops centered around writing craft and publishing, one-on-one critique sessions, a chance to socialize with other writers in a gorgeous, private setting, and of course, lots of available writing time.

And as soon as an acquaintance of mine mentioned it on Twitter, I wanted in.

Now, I am super happy to report that I’ve reserved my spot in this spring’s session, and I’ll be flying out to Virginia in a month and a half. One of my personal goals for this year was to make it to at least one conference or writing-related event, time and money permitting. Last year, I wasn’t honestly sure if this would even be possible, so I’m thrilled at the way things fell into place for me.

I’d still love to get to a conference at some point, but the smaller group atmosphere of Wordsmith Workshops seems a lot more suited to my needs (and my wallet) at this point in time. Plus, I’m a big fan of both Beth and Cristin as writers, and the thought of meeting them in person kind of makes my brain explode.

If you’re looking for more information, I’ve linked to Wordsmith’s website here. I’m incredibly excited about the spring session, and I’m sure I’ll have lots more to say once it actually happens.

In the meantime, it’s nice to have something to look forward to other than the eventual arrival of warm weather. 🙂
